Questions
What counts as a protected course?
A course with student enrolments and activity in the trailing 12 months, measured from the Canvas API. Sandboxes, blueprint courses, and concluded shells are excluded. You protect all your active courses, billed in blocks of 10 with a 50-course minimum.
Do I have to back up all my courses?
Yes. Retenta protects your whole active course set rather than a hand-picked subset, so your evidence covers everything an auditor might ask about, not just the courses you remembered to include.
How do you prove a backup will actually restore?
Every backup is integrity-checked. On a schedule that depends on your edition, we restore it into an isolated environment, run automated checks, and produce a Restore Verification Report. On Govern, that report is counter-signed and we leave the restored instance open in a sandbox you can log into for 7 days. Every edition also includes a self-service restore portal.
Can I change editions or course count?
Yes. Editions are independent of your size, so you can move up or down at renewal, and adding courses through the year is just additional blocks. Upgrades mid-contract are available on request.
Is there a free trial?
We don’t offer a free trial, but design partners receive free access while we build the product together.
What if I’m not sure which edition I need?

What happens to my data if I cancel?
We provide a 90-day export window. Your backups remain accessible for your edition’s retention period (24 months, 3 years, or 7 years) even after cancellation. We don’t delete them before the retention lock expires.
